What can I say, this game is just awesome.
The story mode is brilliant especially on Veteran it just brings the game alive! It is the most realistic World War II shooter ever and will still be
great for years to come. As soon as I began playing the Russian missions I found myself immersed in the game. The sound and visuals give a very convincing and realistic feel to the game. Why don’t history teachers just let us play this in our lessons, I would learn a lot more about the War!
Every one of the missions are action packed and so far I haven’t been let down by the single player side of things. I recommend that you play the game on veteran as it is a lot more tactical, one wrong move and you could easily be gunned down but it is a lot better than literally skipping past an enemy tank on easy mode! You can sometimes find yourself being killed 20 or more times on particular veteran missions, but once you do get to the rally point there is a real sense of achievement. The missions are varied, whether the objective is to storm an enemy village, defend against a German counter attack or take out an enemy tank you will always have to use special tactics to get out of a situation and move that little bit closer to your goal.
The achievements are very generous with 60 points per mission, but you do have to complete them on veteran which is harder than you might think, but very rewarding once you’ve battled your way through the various settings of this game. So far I have done all of the Russian missions and about half of the British campaign. I have yet to attempt the D-DAY mission and the other American ones which should be interesting.
Forget about Perfect Dark as the best shooter for the 360, COD 2 is a far superior game. It is the best launch game for the 360 so it is a MUST BUY!!!
In my opinion the graphics are brilliant, and will be even better when I get my VGA cable! Some Xbox 360 games have been let down by their ’shininess’ where the textures look like they have been covered by cling-film but COD2 has achieved graphics that, to me look almost real!
The only down side to the game is the Online game play, some of the games I have been on have been so laggy that they are unplayable. But a new patch has been released that has pretty much solved this problem but you still get the odd lagfest occasionally. As long as you find a good UK server you should be absolutely fine. Another problem that has been fixed by the patch is the ’save game bug’ unfortunately this is a little late for me when I lost some of the Russia saves, now I have no evidence to back up my achievements.
