There is only one word to describe the latest Sierra release for Xbox Live Arcade, dissapointing. Battlestar Galactica is based on the suprisingly good remake of the 1980’s TV series and that is shown on Cable.
Battlestar Galactica is a very simple top down space shooter, you are able to pilot your ship anywhere in a large arena dotted with asteroids and other ships, using your radar to locate and then hunt down incoming enemy threats. As you play through the game you are able to pilot different ships, the classic Viper Mark 2, Viper Mark 7, the stealth Blackbird and also a Cylon Raider.
There are 10 single player missions that range from protecting the Galatica to taking out a Cylon ace in a certain amount of time. These levels are very short and due to the lack of a game over screen you are always re-spawning after death meaning that you will play through them all in under a few hours.

Once you have played through the single player there are also online deathmatches, but these seem to be the same as the main game, you locate an enemy, shoot missiles and guns, turn around and repeat.
A few good points to mention are the graphics and sound effects, the ships are well detailed and really do look great, whilst the the weapon effects sound like they are straight from the show, unfortunately the music is dull and there is no speech.
This game could have offered so much more as it is an officially licensed game, unfortunately though the developers have not done that much with the freedom a license provides, fans of the show wont get the thrill of the space battles with this game, so it really falls to shoot em up fans, and to be honest, there are plenty of other better games on Xbox Live Arcade to choose from.
