Another season is on it’s way and therefore the inevitable new version of Singstar is also coming along to join in the fun. Singstar: Summer Party brings with it some feel good songs to get you in the mood for the sunny season, intrigued? Well let’s find out more.

For those who own a PS2 and have never played Singstar before, it is basically a Karaoke game with 30 of the latest tunes, one or two players can take part allowing for Solo singing, Duets, Pass the Mic and Battles, at the end of the song you are then rated on your performance, with Singstar being the top rating. Half the fun of the game is trying to stay above your friends on the leaderboards for each song, however being the PS2 version there is no online leaderboards.

This latest version of Singstar brings 30 new tracks including the latest songs such as Big Girl by Mika and Call the Shots by Girls Aloud to older classic (I use that term loosely given that I prefer my rock music) tracks such as Whams Club Tropicana, The Only Way is Up by Yazz and Mysterious Girl by Pete Andre (I know that’s hardly classic but it made you smile). There is certainly a good mix of tracks meaning that there should be at least one song that everyone likes.

Other than the new songs pretty much everything else stays the same, it is the same old interface that Playstation 2 owners are used to and you are still able to swap between different discs by pressing the select button on your control. While the interface is basic it does it’s job, allowing users to preview and select any of the 30 songs easily. Owners of the earlier Playstation 3 with backwards compatibility may be interested to know that this game will work on their machine, much like the previous versions do, so that alone is a bonus.

The songs included are all presented with their original videos and are relevant to the summer party theme that they are trying to represent. If you like Singstar and are having a summer party then this could be the game for you, as usual it just comes down to personal taste, now where is my mic, I am off for a game of Singstar Rocks.
